Fake Calder
2009
Hand-cut steel
60" x 40"
“Fake Calder” is exactly what it purports to be: a non-authentic replica of a mobile by Alexander Calder. Even though this piece is on the surface identical to the original, its perceived worth differs significantly to that of its source. This piece explores the way that art is assigned value in the art market through the notions of originality, genius, and the cult of the individual.
