One Hour Smile is a 60-minute video that documents in real time the slow arduous break down of my smile. It's a piece about empathy, self-awareness, and how as social animals, we learn how to read one another.
After creating the initial video, I decided I wanted to create a piece or series that finished when I died. In this way, time is not only about the endurance of my smile, but also the duration of my life. If I live to be around 87 years, I will get seven One Hour Smiles. Wow! In this way, the piece is a meditation on the totality of one's life and one's experiences minute by minute.
